Gates Cook and Sean Magnus headline Fury Amateur Series 56 in a bout for the FFC Welterweight Championship in Houston this weekend.

Fight Card

Fury Amateur Series 56 kicks off on Sunday, February 2nd, at 1:30 pm at Escapade 2001. The card includes 14 fights, with two title fights headlining. Brian Gutierrez takes on Abdul Khushnood in the first bout of the day. These two flyweights will look to move up the Southwest rankings with a decisive win in this three-round battle.

Next, Niazi Hematali and Isreal Ortega face off in each fighter’s debut at 135. Davor Gallegos will also debut at Bantamweight against Cullen Cato, who is looking to bounce back from a previous split decision loss to Adrian Tortola at Fury Amateur Series 53.

Cristian Reynoso-Garcia will square off with Carlos Menendez in the other double debut of the night, followed by Gerald Crawford vs. Marcus Rambaran. Rambaran is ranked 76th among amateur flyweights in the Southwest and hopes to improve that ranking while staying unbeaten.

Lightweights Jordan Gonzalez and Nathan Harris look to secure their first win at FAS. Raenna Patino and Kyle Steele round out the first half of the card with their three-round Strawweight clash.

The next bout on the card features two 1-0 fighters currently ranked in the US Southwest. Angel Castillo, ranked 146th in the region as a Featherweight, takes on Mario Bustos, who is ranked 135th in the region at Bantamweight. Both fighters come in after impressive KO/TKO victories at Fury Amateur Series 55.

Ethan Brown and Lane Christianson will face off next in a three-round fight. Both fighters are looking for their first wins in the Lightweight division. Edward Caldera will look to climb the Southwest Bantamweight rankings by defeating Zach Atalig, who currently sits at 170th.

Two top-100 Southwest Featherweights will battle in the final three-round bout of the evening. Ibraheem Khan and Jorge Regalado come in at 1-0, with each fighter earning their first victory via first-round submission. This fight should be an excellent setup for the Co-Main and Main Event.

Co-Main Event

The FFC Featherweight Championship is on the line as Devin Jones (3-1) enters the cage against Cade Foradory (4-1). Foradory goes into the matchup as a top-10 Featherweight in his region, while Jones looks to enter the top-50 with a win. Jones has two KO/TKO victories and a submission win over Dustin Smith at Fury Challenger Series 12. Foradory has three finishes and a unanimous decision victory, with his only loss coming in his first fight at Fury FC 71: Richardson vs. Quintana in November 2022.

Main Event: Magnus vs. cook

The Main Event features two of the best Welterweights in their regions battling for the FFC Welterweight Championship. Gates Cook (4-1) enters hostile territory as he travels from Ohio to take on the 4th ranked Welterweight in the Southwest. Cook is ranked 20th in the Midwest at Welterweight and has finishes in all four victories.

Sean Magnus is undefeated as an amateur, with three of his four victories coming via a submission or KO/TKO finish. He’s coming off of a unanimous decision win over Seldon Wright at Fury FC 93: Esteves vs. Walker.

This should be a phenomenal finish to this card, as each fighter has shown the ability to end a fight early, whether by KO or submission. At 6’4″, Cook will have the reach advantage, but Magnus has dealt with a taller fighter before, earning a TKO win over KJ Thomas at Fury Amateur Series 51.
