Gates ‘The Sniper’ Cook Takes Aim at Combat Zone 91

Gates ‘The Sniper’ Cook has his sights set on a professional debut at Combat Zone 91 in Manchester, New Hampshire. Cook will face Lucas Moreira at 170 lbs in what should be a phenomenal fight. Both fighters have impressive amateur resumes and match up well in size and stature.

Gates Cook

Gates had a solid amateur run before turning pro, earning victories over several tough fighters, including Jacob Yancey (Guillotine) and Ryan Duffy (KO – 1st). Cook won the 2023 Amateur Rising Star Award from Ohio MMA News and has fought for Ohio promotions like OCL, Caged Thunder, and EGO Fight Series. He’s also fought for LFA, Fury Amateur Series, and Hendo’s Fight Night. Gates is no stranger to traveling for work, as his amateur career has taken him to California, Connecticut, Kentucky, and Texas.

Cook is a tall, talented striker who uses his reach and accuracy to do damage to his opponent. He’s also shown that he can finish fights with submissions, doing so against Yancey and Trevon Goldy. The last time we saw Gates in MMA action on Carnage Media, he earned a first-round TKO against Jake Lee.

Gates is confident and determined going into his pro MMA bout. When I asked him for a quote about his upcoming debut, he said,

“Sorry, but to make my dreams come true, I have to destroy yours.”

Lucas Moreira

Lucas Moreira is 1-0 as a pro after a first-round TKO win over Derek Clardy at Combat Zone 89. Moreira is a former Combat Zone amateur double champ, holding the welterweight and middleweight belts simultaneously. At 6’2″, he matches up well with the 6’4″ Cook. Lucas fights in a southpaw stance, adding more flavor to this matchup.

Moreira won most of his amateur fights by finish, and with a mix of submissions and TKOs, he’s shown that he, too, can be dangerous wherever the fight goes.

With two talented young pros eager to prove themselves, this will be a war that the fans in the SNHU Arena will remember.
